Scope and content

The print reproduction of Edward Hooper’s 1941 painting depicts three sail boats on a windy day near a house on the coast. Hooper used minimalism to give viewers the opportunity to make personal connections to each piece. His aesthetic key to success was the emphasis on the horizontality of lines and light in selected scenarios. There is still a sense of stillness in this breezy scene.
