Biographical history

Captain Clifford Fenton commanded TEV Princess Marguerite as well as other B.C. Coast Steamships for Canadian Pacific. He was author of "The Sea's Apprentice", which follows his early maritime career. He was master of TEV Princess Marguerite in 1939 which transported their Royal Highnesses to Vancouver during their royal visit to Canada.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of photographs, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia regarding the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Pacific Railway Steamship Lines, the 1939 royal visit, SS Princess Kathleen, SS Princess Alice, and TEV Princess Marguerite dating primarily to the 1930s.

Also includes a draft and published versions of a manuscript titled "The Sea Apprentice: Being an Account of Two Voyages Round the World Under Canvas", by Captain Clifford Fenton. As well as an empty Sperry Gyroscope Company Limited folder, assorted personal and professional documents from Captain Fenton relating primarily to the sale and royalties of his book, assorted Canadian Pacific Steamship ephemera including dinner menus, wine list, pencil drawings, correspondence, receipts, and a memorandum of understanding dating from 1934 to 1939 and 1950 to 1955.
