History

Major oil producer, exporter, and operator of oil tankers in 19th and 20th centuries. The company was established as the merger of three southern California oil companies. Union Oil merged with Chevron in 2005. The company's 8,088 gross ton Santa Maria grounded on Glimpse Reef off Dallas Road, Victoria in 1938 but was salvaged.
