History
HMCs Malahat is a training establishment for part-time sailors as well as a local recruitment centre for the Canadian Naval Reserve in Victoria, British Columbia. It is one of 24 naval reserve divisions in major cities across Canada and was commissioned in 1944. HMCs Malahat has operated out of various locations, including the Dockyard. From 1955 to 1964 it was located in the brick Old Customs Building on Wharf Street at the foot of Fort Street, still often called “the Malahat building”. Since 1992, Malahat has been in a purpose-built structure on Shoal Point on the former location of the Victoria Machinery Depot shipyard.
